Character InformationCharacter Name: Jesse Swanson
Canon: Pitch Perfect (2012 movie)
Canon Point: “Just before the Finals at the International Championship.”
Meaning: The two college a cappella groups are in the international finals and the boys are up before the girls. He’s currently the lead singer of the group. Just as he’s about to step out on stage he steps out into a river instead, flailing to get to the side. Thus it’s before forgiving/making up with Beca.

Appearance: Jesse is a normal human, around the age of 19 to 20, as he started college right after graduating High School. He’s generally considered an average looking young man with a fair build but nothing completely athletic. He has short brown slightly curly hair thats a little less than tamed. Brown eyes and a fun smile. Truthfully, he’s just a bit ‘dorky’ in appearance. He isn't quite standing out as a nerd but not a handsome popular kind of guy either.
He tends to dress in the eternal college student kind of clothing. Simple shirts, jeans, cargo pants, flannel shirts, leather jackets, tank tops and layers, you name it. He looks and dresses his age. His dress sense is about average for a guy his age.

Age: 20 (approximation) - They never say how old they are or exactly what year it is. I’m going with the year being 2012. And I’d like to consider that by the time I take him from the end of the movie he’s at least 20.
History: History, a Link.
In short, Jesse is a local kid from Georgia who, right out of high school, managed to land a scholarship and funding to go to Braden University in Atlant. He doesn’t stand out much, other than being a good guy with a love of music. He works as an intern at the local Radio Station and joined the a capella group “The Treblemakers” who are the current champions of the International Championship of Collegiate A Capella (for the past 6 years). He later becomes the lead singer of the Treblemakers when the last leadsinger, a major jerk and show off, ditches the group to sing backup for John Mayer.
From the very start of school he saw (and sang at) a girl getting out of a taxi. Beca. When he ran into her again at the Radio Station he was excited, saying he knew who she was and that he sang at her from the car. She repeatedly denies having noticed him. Through the course of the film he makes repeated attempts to woo her, making humorous comments, flirting and just being a friendly and nice guy. He reveals that he’s super into movies and someday wants to score feature films, to which Beca seems very... bored about. He’s appalled that she doesn’t like films, and worse yet doesn’t bother to finish watching them. “But the end is the best part!” He tells her. In order to try and fix her clear lack of film education, he brings over to her dorm room his favorite film, The Breakfast Club, and doesn’t bother to play the whole thing for her. He just insists that she see, at least, the end of it.
He’s constantly trying to back up Beca when she gets into some form of trouble, going so far as to helping bail her out of jail once as well as calling her father to assist (her father who works at the college and got Beca into school for free). Beca blows up at him, telling him to stop, and that he’s not her boyfriend. He says he knows and just wanted to help, but she leaves in a huff. Later, as someone accuses her of sleeping with him and she’s trying to say she isnt, he steps in to say the same. That there isn’t anything going on with them. She blows up at him yet again and storms off, visibly hurting Jesse.
When Beca comes to apologize, well after spring break (and after watching the full movie of The Breakfast Club) he tells her that she needs to figure herself out, and that he’s done with it. It’s too late to apologize, and he closes the door, leaving her to walk away.
Later at the International Finals Beca and her group pull out a new number, one of which contains the song Don’t You (Forget About Me) made famous by The Breakfast Club movie. The fact that she took that time to do something for him, to prove herself a bit more to him helped melt him once again. In the end she comes to him to apologize again, call him weird, and kiss him. Mending the broken bridge between them.
Six months later it’s shown that Jesse and his group are sitting back in the theater with the other a cappella groups and waiting for try outs. He and Beca still seem to be a thing.
I will be pulling him before the International Finals.
Powers/Special Abilities: Jesse is a fantastic singer and is quick to pick up lyrics of music. He can read sheet music as well as write it. Music and movies is his passion and something he’s studied for years outside of college. He’s fairly good with computers, though not on the level of hacking anything. Mostly just to the level of being able to use his programs well. As for leadership skills, he’s not the best at it, but he’s good at jumping to making things work and getting the ball rolling. He’s all about being spontaneous and working hard.
In other words... no. No Special Abilities or Powers. He’s as human as human can be.
River Power: Healing Power through Song
To heal someone through the power of music. To sing, hum, and harmonize in a way that allows anothers body to heal. To use one's voice to make noise in a tune that will heal or bring good health to another.
In example:
Character A is wounded having been in a fight the night before. In an attempt to cheer said Character up, Jesse sings an upbeat song, possibly even doing a small dorky dance for the person.. Playful and meaningful. Trying to cheer them up. The Character might find that unknowingly Jesse’s ability has made their wounds heal up. Had he in fact known it would so that and sang with a bit more meaning it might have healed completely.
Conditions:
He has to have good intentions. He has to mean what he’s doing or singing. This does not mean that the lyrics have to mean anything. He could sing “Billie Jean” to someone with a knife wound and it will have no relation to anything but as long as he personally means good intentions to the other person it will work. This will work with humming, singing, chanting, or other forms of making music with his mouth and vocal cords. It will not work if he’s playing an instrument. It must be of his vocal cords.
Alternatively:
He can influence negative and ill effects to others through darker songs and bad thoughts. Hard feelings and bad thoughts can influence already wounded people to find it harder to heal for a short time. Or even, if he truly has a problem with someone, reopening of old wounds. You have to be a real horses ass though, to make him really upset with a person. He’s generally a good guy.
Manifestation:
It will end up being a fairly easy task for him in the end, but it might be hard for him to discover. Most of the time he’ll sing because he’s bored, or to cheer someone up. He’s not much into singing to a wounded person. So finding out it heals might be hard to discover. Not to mention that it will take practice and focus to learn to heal one person. Over time I would like to consider, if he works hard enough at it, that he could, if he had good intentions towards an entire group, heal in a mass level. Again, that would take some time to manage.
Reason for Character Choice: I’m looking to play someone I haven’t played before. I tend to play a lot of superheroes, powered characters, or ‘dark’ characters. I was hoping to look into trying someone who’s just a bit more normal and a bit less dark and brooding. With that said, I would love to see how this normal guy would deal with showing up in New York randomly, via a river, and with some weird singing powers. I liked the look of the game, and it’s small, prose styled, and a lot of great looking characters.
I’m really hoping to find a fit here and I thought, for some reason, that Jesse would be an interesting addition. I’ve only just got his journal started and I know it’s a bit blank at the moment, but I tend to put a HMD, Contact, IC Contact, App/info posts up in his journal and he’ll have a full set of Icons here pretty soon.

[Video: A young man appears on screen, looking down into his communicator with a wide eyed look]
All right. Oh god. This is really happening. Okay. So... there was something about people being able to see this? To hear this? Right. So. I’m... ah... Jesse. [He gave the video an awkward look to go with his awkward pause, because... this feels weird.]
[Heck he even said it.] Yeeeah, this is weird. It’s a bit like facebook or something, right? Is this live streaming or do I need to upload it. Jesus... I sound like I’m clueless.
[the video was suddenly lowered, the world tilting into view like he lowered it to his side. He moved, left, to right, and left again. Then huffed.] New York. I always wanted to come to New York, but I didn’t expect it to be like this. Oh, right...
[the video lifted again, the boys face looking it over once more.] I suppose I should look for a job? It’s New York. I suppose I can find anything in the entertainment industry here, huh. Hmm, perhaps this won't be so bad.
[he tapped the screen, trying to see if he could end this and upload it, or if it was live stream. Either way the feed shut off.]
Third-Person Log Sample:
Getting over the initial shock of the entire situation have proven to be easier then one might think. At first he had a mild panic attack. Worry over what his parents would think if they found out he wasn’t in Georgia suddenly. A mild concern that, well, maybe he drank too much and the entire damn world for blurry on him...and... he ended up... in a river, a long ways from home. Apparently changed?
Yeah, okay, there was a lot there that didn’t make sense. But there were a lot of people who didn’t make sense either. Like that chick with the green skin. He’d made the mistake of saying her makeup looked amazing. She said she wasn’t wearing any and stormed off.
Now? Now he was wandering Time Square. He’d never been here before and always wanted to visit. You know, stand on a corner with a crowd and wave at the guy filming them for who even knows what news and entertainment station filming at the time. Scream like a girl like he knew or cared who the current interviewing star was. It was more just the excitement of it all, really. The electric buzz in the air of being somewhere that everyone knew, even if they hadn’t yet been there either.
There were groups here and there. Street performers. Dancers. People with weird instruments and others doing a capella. Now THAT he could get into. As he came around on corner he saw a girl playing a strange electronic lap instriment, to a tune he knew. She wasn’t singing the lyrics though, just playing. He couldn't blame her though. It had a catchy beat after all. He and the boys were going to use this for a finals mesh up at the internationals, but...
But he ended up here instead.
Without being invited or without putting any thought into it, he started to move, coming in closer, bouncing a bit to the beat. His head at first, then his feet. As the tune came back around he opened his mouth to sing. “And it may be just more of the same.” he said with a smile, hand resting on his chest as he inched in, looking at the girl as if hoping she didn’t mind. “But sometimes I wanna go where everyone knows your name!”
The girl looked up, her fingers moving over the odd homemade instrument, then bobbed her head with a smirk, a nod and a bigger smile. That was his invitation. “So guess I’ll have to wait and see. But I’m just gonna let something brand new happen to me.”
Jesse got into it, swaying a bit at first, then leaning into the music, soft clap here, a spin there, dancing as he sang the lyrics to a song that seemed a bit more fitting to him right now then it should.
By time they were done, there was a small group of people around, some clapped, some took a picture, others wandered on, pausing only to drop change into her upturned hat on the sidewalk before her.
He moved closer, pulling out his empty pocket and gave her a sympathetic smile. “I’d pitch in too, but I’m a bit new to these parts. Great job though. That was fun.” He said with a chuckle. The girl waved his offer of a hand out away, saying that he just helped her pick up more tips then she would have on her own.
Jesse stayed for a few more songs, before tipping his invisible hat to her and wandered off on his way. Thoughts forming. This could work out real well.
Or at least be an adventure.
